Clindamycin

Type of Medication: Antibiotic

Indications: Treatment of Staphyloccocal infection.

Side Effects: Diarrhoea (C difficile – discontinue treatment), colitis, nausea, vomiting, blood dyscrasias (neutropenia, eosinophilia, agranulocytosis), dermatitis, jaundice, abnormal liver function tests, hypersensitivity reactions,rash,urticaria,phlebitis

Route of administration: Adult (Intravenous)

Dose:Serious infection: 600-1.2 g/day in 2,3 or 4 equal doses. More serious infections: 1.2-2.7 g/day in 2,3 or 4 equal doses. In life threatening infections upto 4.8 g/day have been administered.

Administration: Single doses above 600 mg by intravenous infusion only.Single doses by intravenous infusion should not exceed 1.2g. The concentration of clindamycin in diluent for infusion should not exceed 18 mg per mL and infusion rates should not exceed 30 mg per minute.

Dose:300 to 450 mg qds (maximum 600 mg qds)

Route of administration: Paediatric (Intravenous)

Dose:Child over 1 month,15-40 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses. Severe infections at least 300 mg daily regardless of weight.

Dose:3-6 mg/kg every 6 hours.
