Urokinase
Type of Medication: Thrombolytic
Indications: Treatment of blocked Port A Cath or PAS port
Side Effects: nausea, vomiting, bleeding, hypotension if sytemic, transient increase in temperature
Route of administration: Adult (via Port)
Dose:Low dose of 2,500 to 5,000 units or a higher dose of 25,000 units can be given
Administration: Reconstitute 5,000 units of urokinase with 1 ml 0.9% Saline. Inject 0.5 to 1 ml of solution into line. Leave a minimum of 2 to 3 hrs. If still blocked use 1 ml of 25,000 units/ml solution and leave for 24 hrs
